At the end of my tenure in the family business, I was the happiest I had ever been in my role. I enjoyed my team and my coworkers and had a deep level of knowledge and understanding of the industry.
I knew I could continue and have a successful career in the business but I had a nagging feeling that there was something more for me. I realized while I found my career interesting, what I was always most proud of was growing and developing people.
Through being coached myself and identifying my values, I discovered that my calling was to help other people realize their potential. Itâs when the process is messy and hard, thatâs when you know it is meaningful work.
Part of our cultural zeitgeist is âoptimal performance,â or, finding how to do things the best way. There is no best way. Every individual, every family, every business has to look inside, decide whatâs important, recognize whatâs valuable, and build from those answers.
When I advise, coach and facilitate, I am essentially helping people create a compelling picture of the future and choose the ways they will move towards it.
